Great minds drink alike! At Ward’s, we have all the domestic and imported wines to make your life wine-derful. From date night to birthday parties, we’ve got all your occasions covered. Let us help you find the wine that will leave you saying “Another glass? Wine not?”

It’s Wine-O-Clock

Red Wines

Cabernet? More like, caber-yay! Looking to have a drink with a hearty meal like pasta or steak? Your go-to should be red wine. Red wines come from fermented black grapes that create high tannin levels. These tannins make the wine have a bitter, drier taste. That’s why it’s better to drink red wine at room temperature rather than chilled.

Best Bottles: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir

Perfect Pairings: Pasta, Steak, Pizza

Serving Suggestions: Ideally, red wine is served just below room temperature. Pros will suggest a red wine glass, but any wine glass will do!

White Wines

For a lighter, fresh taste, head to our white wine selection. Unlike red wines, white wines are made with both white and black grapes but without grape skins. This gives it a clearer color, with fewer tannins and more acidity. You’re left with a tart, crisp wine that’s ideal for light meals.

Best Bottles: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio

Perfect Pairings: Fish, Seafood, Cheese, Poultry, Salad

Serving Suggestions: Serve white wine chilled. To follow expert advice, go for 49 to 55 degrees for highlighted acidity and flavor.

Rosé Wines

Don’t forget to stop and smell the rosé! This wine has the sweetness and pink color to bring any meal to life. It’s a common misconception that rosé is made from red and white wines, but in truth, the grape skins create its vibrant color. Rosé’s low tannin levels make it light and flavorful, a perfect crowd-pleaser.

Perfect Pairings: For light rosés, stick with lighter foods like cheese and seafood, while juicer rosés pair well with pizza, pasta, and poultry.

Serving Suggestions: Serve rose chilled for enhanced refreshment.

Sparkling Wines

Brighten up a celebration with some bubbly! Sparkling wines, or bubbly, are carbonated wines made from white and red grapes. The naturally formed carbon dioxide from fermentation causes a sparkling appearance. Fun fact: sparkling wines are served in narrow, tall glasses to help retain the temperature and bubbles. These wines are ideal for celebratory events or to spice up brunch with a mimosa.

Best Bottles: Champagne, Prosecco

Perfect Pairings: Cheese, Fruit, Salad, Seafood

Serving Suggestions: Always serve sparkling wines cold to boost flavor and prevent the bottle from exploding.

Dessert & Sweet Wines

The name speaks for itself, dessert wines are the after-dinner sweet treat that will make you un-wine-d. However, in the United Kingdom, sweet white wine is used as an aperitif, a drink to prepare the palate, rather than an after-dinner after drink. When shopping for dessert wines, look for any of these words: dolce, dulce, doux or moelleux.

Best Bottles: Moscato, Sherry, Icewine, Port

Perfect Pairings: Fruit, Dessert, Cheese

Serving Suggestions: Use smaller wine glasses and serve dessert wines chilled unless it’s a red wine, then serve at room temperature.
